Remembering his first...

Justin has been asking when we'll be able to race BMX again. I was looking thru old pictures and I found the picture of him after he had just learned how to ride without training wheels. He was so little and all the mothers at the track told me that age 3 was too young for a kid to be in the gate, let alone race. I told them they could be the one to tell Justin he was too little. He was the youngest racer that year and he took enough wins to make it to intermediate by the time he was 5. It would have been sooner if we had had the funds to race twice a week. I love these pictures. Justin's little legs couldn't even touch the ground. Someone had to be there when he got to the finish line.
Look at those little legs. He was very determined to do it all by himself. He still has yet to fall off his bike.

Here he is for the first time in a REAL race against 5 and 6 year olds. He went out and showed them how it's done.
I'm so glad we were able to find BMX racing. It is a great family sport. We were able to race regularly for 3 years. The first year we started, I was 31. I took 2nd at Nationals in May, broke my wrist in June while racing the 16 year old boys and everyone was convinced I'd never get on a bike again. I went on to take State. I was the 2006 Utah State Champion, along with the District Champion. I miss racing and hope that after I'm done with school, we'll be able to have the time and the funds to race again. It's a great way to stay in shape and the BMX family is the closest knit and great people! Someday. Maybe I'll even make Idaho State Champion. A girl can dream can't she!
